Introducing the Sierra Varminter, a high-velocity ammunition designed with precision and explosive expansion in mind. This offering is engineered for rifles, utilizing a 60-grain Hollow Point bullet that sets the standard for accuracy and performance.
The design of this projectile shines when paired with larger-capacity cartridges such as the .22-250 or .220 Swift. These calibers benefit from barrels featuring 1x14" twist rates, ensuring stability and long-range accuracy. For medium-capacity cases like the .223 Remington, a faster twist rate of 1x12" or better delivers optimal results.
This ammunition boasts impressive ballistic coefficients: maintaining a coefficient of .246 at velocities above 2800 fps, slightly decreasing to .240 between speeds of 2800 and 2000 fps, then returning to .246 at velocities below 2000 fps. Such characteristics make it an excellent choice for long-range varmint hunting endeavors.
While primarily suited for rifles, it's important to note that despite its Hollow Point construction, we do not recommend this round for handgun hunting purposes. However, it has proven successful on half-size NRA Silhouette targets since its introduction in 1984.
The Sierra Varminter continues to be favored by shooters who demand precise hits coupled with remarkable terminal effects—a testament to over three decades of trusted performance in the field.
